About the Author
Alex Lohman
Writer. Professor. Lawyer. Nerd.
Of the many things Alex loves, Chicago (its food, people, and sports), writing, and the US Constitution/Civil Rights are among her top favorites. The perfect convergence of the three, she is thankful you took the time to stop by, read this project, and learn a little more about her.
Alex's first love has always been writing. Akin to receiving a Hogwarts Letter, Alex still remembers the day she opened her acceptance letter to art school for creative writing. From there, she found her magic power of prose, and her life continues to be filled with story and imagination. She writes in a "Life, As Told by" narrative on her personal blog,
Half of My Heart [Has A Real Good Imagination].
Alex's first self-published project is Herstory: A Woman in History. It began in 2008 as an assignment for a college-level creative writing seminar. One short story evolved into a collection of voices of various women. The project was published in Spring of 2020. She has written academic articles, op-ed pieces, and other creative projects, including short form/free form poetry.
Additionally, Alex is a self-described recovering lawyer/lawyer trapped in a writer's body. She practices civil rights law/compliance, and she is also a professor of constitutional law and civil rights at her alma mater, California State University, Long Beach. She enjoys being outdoors - both the beach and the mountains (perks of being a Los Angelino) - being with her family, performing in local plays, and finding any excuse to go on an adventure.
